Flavour of the Future – A Journey into Healthy and Sustainable Food Choices

Welcome to Flavour of the Future, an innovative PhotoVoice project for young people aged 12 to 18. Read more on the following page.

What is PhotoVoice?
PhotoVoice is a participatory method that uses photography to tell personal stories. It gives young people the opportunity to capture and share their thoughts, emotions, and experiences around food. Together, we create a powerful visual dialogue for a healthier and more sustainable future.

Food in Focus: For a Future of Flavour and Sustainability.

Flavour of the Future – The PhotoVoice Food Project, aimed at young people aged 12 to 18, uses photography to raise awareness about their eating habits and the impact these have on their health and the environment. During a four day workshop, participants explore the diversity of food, flavor, and sustainability, culminating in an exhibition of their findings. The project combines online platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and the Skool Community with physical exhibitions to widely share the message of healthy and sustainable eating, creating a lasting impact.

In Flavour of the Future, the concept of “flavour” goes beyond mere taste; it encom-passes memory, experience, and perception. Participants are first asked to recall the flavour of a food—what they remember about its aroma, texture, and essence.

This flavour, as a remembrance, reflects how our minds preserve sensory experiences over time. Next, participants taste the food in real time, capturing the difference be-tween memory and immediate sensory perception. Here, “the flavour is the remem-brance, and the taste is the reality” becomes a guiding principle, inviting participants
to explore how these sensations intersect and evolve.

By connecting flavour to both memory and the future, Flavour of the Future not only honours how we perceive food today but also asks participants to consider how their tastes and choices may shape the future—individually and collectively. Through this process, we reveal how our past experiences with food influence our present choices and envision a more mindful, sustainable approach to what we consume.
